The snow is falling and we want to make sure all of our beloved customers stay safe on the road ahead. We know living in the tri-state area means you’re no stranger to the snow. However, that doesn’t mean that we all like driving in the snow, or even good at doing so. So, in order to help keep everyone safe, we have a couple of tips and tricks for driving in the snow. Now we want to emphasize the importance of safe driving, and urge all customers to stay off the road if possible. However, we understand that in some cases it is inevitable that you’ll have to drive in the snow. So take a peek below for a refresher on how to navigate the snow carefully! And if you want to shop for a new Mercedes-Benz, we invite you to shop online now at https://www.mercedesbenzofdanbury.com/, and schedule a test drive when the storm clears up!

Tips For Driving In The Snow:

  • Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for gaining traction and avoiding skids.
  • Drive slowly. Everything takes longer on snow-covered roads. Accelerating, stopping, turning – nothing happens as quickly as on dry pavement. Give yourself time to maneuver by driving slowly.
  • The normal dry pavement following distance of three to four seconds should be increased to eight to ten seconds
  • Know your brakes. Whether you have antilock brakes or not, the best way to stop is threshold braking.
  • Don’t stop if you can avoid it.
  • Don’t stop going up a hill. There’s nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road.
  • Make it know what kind of driving assistance you have (AAA, Roadside Assistance, etc.)

Hello, 2021! As we get back into the flow of normal life after the holiday season, it’s also important to set resolutions for ourselves in the new year. A simple resolution for you to follow is staying more organized, which is important as a car driver. I know, you’re probably thinking ‘how does staying organized help you be a better driver?’ Well, many of us can relate when I say my car is my closet on wheels. We spend a lot of time behind the wheel, and our stuff tends to as well. It’s important to get your vehicle organized, not only to declutter your car for space and passengers but safety too! So, take a peek below and see how in just 4 easy steps you can get your Mercedes-Benz organized and ready for whatever 2021 has in store! And if you need help with any winter service or repairs, be sure to schedule your service appointment, now at Mercedes-Benz of Danbury!

Step 1: Sort and clean

  • Take everything out of the car, including car seats, music, and miscellaneous items stored in the glove box and door pockets.
  • Don’t forget the trunk and cargo area!
  • Organize the rest of the items into three piles: stuff you use all the time, things you use occasionally, and items you might need in an emergency. Whatever doesn’t fall into these categories should be stored in your home or garage.

Step 2: Analyze

  • Ask yourself, “How do I use my car?”
  • Are you the taxi driver? Maybe you’re a parent with two toddlers in car seats or a salesman who travels with a trunkload of samples. Whatever it is, figure it out.

Step 3: Prioritize

  • Depending upon your needs, go through your three piles and prioritize the most important items in each group
  • And just like seasonal clothes in a closet, many items such as ice scrapers and emergency kits should be stored back in your vehicle

Step 4: Contain your needs

  • Loose objects in the car lead to disorganization and mess. In the event of a sudden stop or a crash, they can also damage your car or, worse, injure your occupants. Get yourself a good organizer to keep all of your items concise and easy to access.

Rumor has it that a big snowstorm could be coming our way very soon, which there really is no better time than NOW, to get your Mercedes-Benz into tip-top shape for the winter weather. The MVP of your winter driving performance is your tires. Making sure the tread on your tires is always important, especially during the winter months. If you’re driving on snow, ice, slush, etc, without tread, you’re basically driving with no traction…aka the thing that keeps you from sliding off the road. So, if you haven’t done so, it’s time to check your tire traction. Don’t know much about cars? No problem, we have a super simple way to check your tires and all you need is a penny! Below see how to conduct the penny test, and see if it’s time for new tires. If you find it’s time for new tires, head to our tire shop to find the perfect match for your Mercedes-Benz and schedule a service appointment today at Mercedes-Benz of Wappingers Falls!

The Penny Test

  • The idea of the penny test is to check whether you’ve hit the 2/32” threshold
  • Place a penny between the tread ribs on your tire.
  • Turn the penny so that Lincoln’s head points down into the tread.
  • See if the top of his head disappears between the ribs. If it does, your tread is still above 2/32”
  • If you can see his entire head, it may be time to replace the tire because your tread is no longer deep enough.

Helpful Numbers To Remember:

4/32” or deeper = Good depth

3/32” = Replace tires soon

2/32” or less = Replace tires now

Thanksgiving might look a little different this year. Due to COVID19 and numbers rising in many states, avoiding the traditional family/friends gathering might not be the best route for your family. However, just because this Thanksgiving might only be spent in the company of the people you live with, does not mean that you can’t still enjoy the holiday and even spend it with loved ones. If you’re still scratching your head wondering what you and the family can do to get into the holiday spirit this year, take a peek below and see what alternatives you can participate in this Thanksgiving. And if you will be traveling this year be sure to check out the CDC guidelines to enjoy a safe holiday! Also, if you’ll be hitting the road this Thanksgiving, make sure your ride is in shape for the road ahead! Schedule your service appointment online now, or browse our available inventory to upgrade to a new Mercedes-Benz!

Alternative Ways To Celebrate This Thanksgiving:

Host A Virtual Thanksgiving Meal With Friends & Family

  • Livestream your festivities with friends and family. This is a good way to see and talk with your loved ones without the risk of exposure.
  • You can start with appetizers – have each party explain what appetizer they “brought” and rate who’s was the best
  • Once dinner is served, set the camera up to the table and feast with your family and friends. Feel free to share recipes or even watch the big game together.

TV & Games With Household Members

  • It’s no secret there’s a lot to watch on TV during Thanksgiving. If you’re staying home this year, watching TV together or playing games as a family can be a great way to connect.
  • Watch Thanksgiving Day parades, sports, and Christmas movies at home.
  • Find a fun game to play – pull out all your favorite board games and have a family board game night!

Black Friday Online Shopping

  • Shop online sales the day of Thanksgiving and the days leading up to the winter holidays.
  • Use contactless services for purchased items, like curbside pick-up.
  • Shop in open air markets staying 6 feet away from others and wear a mask

Other Ideas

  • Safely prepare traditional dishes and deliver them to family and neighbors in a way that does not involve contact with others (for example, leave them on the porch).
  • Participate in a gratitude activity, like writing down things you are grateful for and sharing with your friends and family.
  • Clean out your basement of gently used or new toys, clothes, etc and donate them this holiday season
  • Look up family-friendly Thanksgiving crafts
  • Have a bake-off! Have the kids help bake or see who can come up with the best dessert for Thanksgiving.
