Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

With windswept style and wind-taming innovations, the E-Class Cabriolets are engineered from the road to the sky to make every day a grand opening, and every season the perfect time for a convertible.

Design

Exquisitely crafted from three layers totalling nearly a full inch in thickness, the rich fabric power soft top of the E-Class Cabriolet is designed to provide a coupe-like level of silence in the cabin. In just 20 seconds, it stows away in the trunk, while preserving a generous 8.8 cu ft of cargo space.

Advanced LED lighting makes your presence, and your actions, instantly apparent to others. Bright white LED Daytime Running Lamps underscore the aggressively chiseled front end of the E-Class Cabriolets. At the rear, wide LED taillamps, brake lamps and turn signals wrap boldly into the muscular rear flanks.

With a drag coefficient as low as 0.29, the E-Class Cabriolets slip through the wind virtually unnoticed. Yet their dramatically detailed styling commands attention, from the arrow-shaped nose to its sculpted rear fenders. With the soft top stowed, a color-keyed cover with domed fairings behind each rear seat maintains its seamlessly flowing design and sleek proportions.

Interior

True grand-touring convertibles, the E-Class Cabriolets extend their gracious refinement to all four passengers. Rich leather is exactingly double-stitched and fitted to each seat by hand. Burl Walnut or Black Ash wood trim is polished by hand and liberally applied throughout the cabin.

Optional in the Premium 1 Package, the innovative AIRSCARF neck-level heating system provides warmed air through adjustable vents within each front head restraint of the E-Class Cabriolet. With three heat settings and speed-sensing airflow, AIRSCARF helps you enjoy top-down driving later into a chilly evening or even the change of seasons.

User-friendly innovation puts abundant technology within reach. With a multifunction steering wheel and convenient central controller, the COMAND system puts audio, vehicle settings and the optional hard-drive navigation with Enhanced Voice Control as close as your fingertips or your voice. The standard Bluetooth® system eases hands-free calling and wireless streaming of your digital audio player.

Performance

Both the 3.5L V-6 in the E350 and the 4.6L twin-turbo V-8 of the E550 breathe deeply, wind up quickly and thrust forward eagerly. With a rapid-multispark ignition system and high-pressure Direct Injection, their stronger response comes with higher fuel economy and ultra-low emissions, too. In fact, the E550 is our quickest, cleanest and most fuel-efficient V-8 convertible yet.

The world's first 7-speed automatic transmission has been reengineered for smoother, more efficient and more responsive performance. An electronic selector and standard paddle shifters allow full control of gear changes without taking a hand from the 3-spoke steering wheel.

The AGILITY CONTROL suspension on the E350 Coupe instantly recalibrates to the road surface, ideally balancing handling with comfort as conditions change. Sport tuning is included with the Appearance Package. On the E550 Coupe, a sport-tuned Dynamic Handling suspension lets you alter the damping rates, accelerator response and shift points with the touch of a single button.

Lift off the accelerator quickly and Predictive Brake Priming sets the pads closer to the discs, for more immediate response when you hit the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying gently applies the brakes periodically, to sweep away water build-up. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist helps prevent unwanted rollback. And a HOLD feature can make stop-and-go traffic a little easier.

Safety

The E-Class Cabriolets are a protective showcase of Mercedes-Benz safety firsts. Among its exclusive innovations, PRE-SAFE® can detect conditions that suggest a collision or rollover is imminent, then adjust the front seat belts, front passenger seat, windows and sunroof, to better prepare the occupants in the moments before a collision.

Integrated with the rear-seat head restraints of the E-Class Cabriolets are a pair of high-strength steel roll bars, an innovation first introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 1989. If sensors detect that a rollover is imminent, the roll bars automatically deploy upward in 0.3 seconds, to help preserve the occupant space. They can also be raised electrically by the driver or rear-seat passengers.
